Summer tasks

Task 1: Film Poster
The quote ‘united we stand, divided we fall’ could be targeted at younger adults to show them what can happen if you don’t stick together during tough times. It also shows how when you work together, you are at your strongest, and when you are divided, you are at your weakest. Marvel use the Avengers as an example of this as it shows how no matter how much power someone has, they won’t always win.

The symmetrical positioning of the characters, also standing with the same posture, represents how they have opposite opinions about the matter, however they are still equal, as both of their opinions can be seen as better than the others’. Also, having two superhero teams fighting against each other would appeal to the younger audience well, as they could pick the team that they prefer and it would give them more of a purpose for watching the film.

The background colour is mostly grey, symbolising how this is a more serious superhero film, which would appeal more to the older audience, so they have been able to make the film appeal to all ages. Also, most superhero films end with the main hero coming out on top, so the muted background shows how this film is different, as it is the superhero’s fighting against each other, so it is a more emotional film.

Task 2: Deutschland 83 analysis:
In the Deutschland trailer there are a lot of cuts which makes it fast paced. the cuts also make it harder to make out what is happening, so it adds an element of the unknown to the trailer, which could make people more interested in watching it. The music starts off slow paced, and then around 20 seconds into the video, the pace increases, adding to the action scenes in the background, which makes the trailer more exciting and gives people more of an impression of what they could expect in the show.

Task 3: Newspaper cover of a major event:

Large title ‘apocalypse’ implies a world ending event. A negative representation as it shows weakness and gives the terrorists who did it what they wanted to see; that they won.

The guardian shows a more unbiased view, and instead of saying the end of the world is already here, they are saying that the war has only just started, which is a more positive view, as it shows we will not give up.

Advertising Campaigns:
Weight loss campaign to show that you have to have a certain figure to be able to be ‘beach body ready’. It implies that you have to lose weight to be beach body ready. This advert could be very demoralising towards people with disabilities, or people who aren’t happy with how they look.

The ‘this girl can’ campaign, however, aims to motivate women to exercise and try new things, and be confident in themselves. It teaches women to not fear being judged by others, and as shown in this picture, any age and background of woman can do anything no matter how they look.

  1. A little more on the marvel video , connotations of the star and the font. What do the words mean? Deutschland '83 trailer analysis needs more, what is the narrative? Main characters? Any significant shots?
