The Jungle Book 1967 and 2016

Ownership impact on production (Disney):

  • High budget - more money goes into editing, CGI and other effects.
  • Wide audience reach.
  • Brand loyalty - everyone will watch it - Disney have a very good reputation.
  • More focused target audience (about 3-16).
  • More time spent on production.
  • However can become boring and competitive.

2016 Jungle Book facts:
  • Director - Jon Favreau
  • £301 UK revenue
  • $177m budget
  • Synergy - original soundtrack, theme parks
  • Most of production was studio based
  • Used puppets on set for animals
  • Raytracing - how light interacts with an object
  • motion resolution.

1967 Jungle Book:
  • Walt Disney died during production
  • first version of the script was too dark, Disney wanted a more family friendly version
  • real orchestra used for songs.
  • 700 artists and musicians.
  • every frame drawn.
  • they are then coloured.
  • cel animation - plastic sheets used to keep background
  • Technicolour

  • Xeroxing - photocopying.
